The London Symphony Orchestra is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading orchestras.
Its many activities include an energetic and ground-breaking education and community programme LSO Discovery, a record company LSO Live, a music education centre LSO St Luke’s and pioneering work in the field of digital music.
Since its formation in 1904 it has always attracted excellent players from all over the world, many of whom have flourishing solo, chamber music and teaching careers alongside their orchestral work. The LSO draws on an enviable roster of soloists and conductors, including Principal Conductor Valery Gergiev and Principal Guest Conductors Daniel Harding and Michael Tilson Thomas.
Continuing the Orchestra’s long association with film music, the LSO has recently recorded soundtracks for Twilight: New Moon, Tamara Drewe and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Parts 1 & 2). The orchestra also features on radio, TV, computer games and in-flight music programmes, and has launched the YouTube Symphony Orchestra, the world’s first-ever online orchestra.
Robin Ticciati has been Principal Conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra since 2009/10 and the Music Director of Glyndebourne Festival Opera since 2014. From the 2017/18 season he will assume the Music Directorship of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin for an initial five-year term.
Guest conducting projects over the next two seasons include return engagements with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Staatskapelle Dresden, DSO-Berlin, NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, Wiener Symphoniker, Swedish Radio Symphony, Budapest Festival Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de France and Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. He will embark on an extensive European tour with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Anne-Sophie Mutter to cities including Vienna (Musikverein), Berlin (Philharmonie), Munich (Gasteig) and Paris (Théâtre des Champs-Élysées).
For his first two seasons as Glyndebourne Music Director, Robin conducted new productions of Der Rosenkavalier and La finta giardiniera, Die Entführung aus dem Serail and a revival of a Ravel double-bill with L’heure espagnole and L’enfant et les sortilèges. His third season will see him conduct a new production of La clemenza di Tito. Aside from Glyndebourne, recent opera projects include new productions of Peter Grimes at La Scala Milan, Le nozze di Figaro at the Salzburg Festival, Eugene Onegin at the Royal Opera House, and a Metropolitan Opera debut with Hänsel und Gretel. He will return to the Met in Spring 2017 with a production of Onegin.
Robin is in his 8th season as Principal Conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. His 2016/17 season with the SCO sought to grow their focus on living composers both from Britain and further afield, as well as the music of Mozart, Strauss and Bruckner. This season saw them touring to Europe and Asia and appearing at the Edinburgh International Festival. Their latest recording for Linn Records, which features Haydn symphonies, was released in September 2015 to rave reviews, with particular praise for its energy and the originality of its programming. The other three albums they have recorded for Linn – two Berlioz discs (Symphonie fantastique, Les nuits d’été and La mort de Cléopâtre) and a double album featuring Schumann’s four symphonies – have attracted unanimous critical acclaim.
Robin’s discography also includes Berlioz’ Roméo et Juliette and L’enfance du Christ with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra (Linn), Dvořák’s Symphony No.9, Bruckner’s Mass No.3 and a Brahms disc with the Bamberger Symphoniker and the Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks (Tudor), as well as a number of opera releases on Opus Arte and on Glyndebourne’s own label.
Born in London, Robin Ticciati is a violinist, pianist and percussionist by training. He was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain when he turned to conducting, aged 15, under the guidance of Sir Colin Davis and Sir Simon Rattle. He was recently appointed ‘Sir Colin Davis Fellow of Conducting’ by the Royal Academy of Music.
Performing music from baroque to new commissions on both modern and period instruments, Alina Ibragimova has established a reputation as one of the most accomplished and intriguing violinists of the younger generation. This was illustrated in her prominent presence at the 2015 BBC Proms, which included a concerto with a symphony orchestra, a concerto with a baroque ensemble and two Royal Albert Hall late-night recitals featuring the complete Bach partitas and sonatas, which commanded capacity audiences, and for which The Guardian commented “The immediacy and honesty of Ibragimova’s playing has the curious ability to collapse any sense of distance between performer and listener”.
Highlights among recent and upcoming concerto engagements include debuts with the Boston Symphony, Montreal Symphony, Konzerthaus Berlin, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Wiener Symphoniker, Camerata Salzburg, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Hungarian National Philharmonic, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Tokyo Symphony, returns with the London Symphony, BBC Symphony and Chamber Orchestra of Europe, residencies with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg and at the Casa della Musica in Porto, as well as extensive touring in Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Tasmania symphony orchestras).
As a recitalist, Alina has appeared at venues including the Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Salzburg Mozarteum, Vienna’s Musikverein, Park Avenue Armory in New York, Carnegie Hall, Palais des Beaux Arts Brussels, Theatre des Champs-Elysees, Vancouver Recital Series, San Francisco Performances, and at the Salzburg, Verbier, Gstaad, MDR Musiksommer, Manchester International, Lockenhaus, Lucerne, Mostly Mozart New York and Aldeburgh festivals.
Her long-standing duo partnership with pianist Cédric Tiberghien has featured highly successful complete cycles of both the Beethoven violin sonatas and the Mozart sonatas for violin and keyboard at Wigmore Hall. Future plans for the duo also include extensive touring in Japan and North America.
Over the years, Alina has appeared with orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Bamberger Symphoniker, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, Stuttgart Radio Symphony, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France, Seattle Symphony, Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, Philharmonia, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and all the BBC orchestras. Conductors with whom Alina has worked include Bernard Haitink, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Valery Gergiev, Paavo Järvi, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Vladimir Jurowski, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Sir Charles Mackerras, Sir Mark Elder, Philippe Herreweghe, Osmo Vänskä, Hannu Lintu, Sakari Oramo, Ilan Volkov, Tugan Sokhiev, Jakub Hrusa, Ludovic Morlot, Edward Gardner and Gianandrea Noseda.
As soloist/director Alina has toured with the Kremerata Baltica, Britten Sinfonia, Academy of Ancient Music and the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
Born in Russia in 1985 Alina studied at the Moscow Gnesin School before moving with her family to the UK in 1995 where she studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and Royal College of Music. She was also a member of the Kronberg Academy Masters programme. Alina’s teachers have included Natasha Boyarsky, Gordan Nikolitch and Christian Tetzlaff.
Alina has been the recipient of awards including the Royal Philharmonic Society Young Artist Award 2010, the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award 2008, the Classical BRIT Young Performer of the Year Award 2009 and was a member of the BBC New Generation Artists Scheme 2005-7.
