So fluently can he speak the language of New Orleans groove, you’d never believe that British-born piano don and funk master Jon Cleary had ever lived anywhere but the Crescent City itself. Considered by many to be a peer of New Orleans piano hero Dr. John, he has spent thirty years soaking himself fully in the decadent piano rolls and swinging carnival basslines for which that noisy, colourful city is (rightly) famous, emerging as a deeply articulate musician respected on both sides of the Atlantic.
Opening the night will be Amythyst Kiah, a Tennessee-based singer, banjo player and guitarist who crosses boundaries with her roots-inspired original material and persuasive reinterpretations of songs borrowed from throughout the last century.
