Throughout this year’s River Town weekend, visit the Colston Hall foyer for free performances from leading lights of Americana music.
Sunday begins with singer-songwriter Elles Bailey (4pm), who lends her unmistakable smoky voice to rootsy blues, country, and soulful rock with a contemporary edge. Next onstage is River Matthews (5pm) who learned classical guitar from the age of seven and whose distinctive voice – which has been likened to Jeff Buckley and Sixto ‘Sugarman’ Rodriguez – creaks and rasps with a wisdom well beyond his tender years. Last to perform, Jonathan Terrell (6pm) was born into a large family of former-cult member musicians and grew up in a trailer among the deep pines of East Texas. Since moving to Austin, Terrell has graced the stage with country legends such as Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard.
